4 miles on the treadmill

Log: Last long run before Run the Valley...first 5K of the season. Not bad. I actually ran the whole 5K distance, then walked almost a quarter mile before finishing the last mile. This is the first time in a while that I actually felt bored on the treadmill...maybe because I actually made it outside a couple times?

Just a couple short runs to get in this week and I will be as ready as I can be.

I also wrote a check for my second 5K entry of the season...the "Bud Break" at the Arboretum...I have been to the Arboretum, but never for a race. I hear it is a beautiful race to run. Now I will have one month to prepare for this one...something to look forward to!

Run the Valley...one week away

My first race of the season is only one week away...and the cold weather wimp that I am has only run outside twice now this year! Why does it have to be sooo cold? My two outdoor runs turned out better than I expected, but not as good as I had hoped. My goal for the run is to only walk for a short distance at the water stop (about mile 2) and hopefully have enough energy to increase my speed for that last mile. I am hoping to get one more 'long' run in this weekend (maybe 4-5 miles) and then just a couple short runs next week before the race.

Wish me luck!

TC 10 Miler...I think I can...

Ok. A little background on my running...I enjoy it, but am not very good at it. I started running a couple years ago, but tend to stick with it for a couple months then take a month off - rinse & repeat. I am slow...average about 11-12 minute miles with my fastest miles being just under 10 minutes. I also don't have that great of endurance...on a great day, I would be able to run about 5K without stopping. But usually I take a couple walk breaks in there. My longest runs (only a couple) have been about 10K.

Anyway, I have become more motivated the last couple months, after watching some of the Twin Cities Marathon on the TV/internet. Now, I have always been one that had no intention of ever running a marathon, but after watching that I really got inspired. So, I have decided to enter the lottery for the TC 10 miler this year! I know it is no marathon - but it is huge for me. I have never even run/walked 10 miles before. Thus, I have until October 5 to train...should be plenty of time...if I can make myself stick to it.
